Giggly Pig
created their "Mojito" flavour at
the time of the World Cup (unlike
England these seem to have done
quite well). One of our team
at a Chelmsford music festival
recently bought a pack to try...
The flavour based on the cocktail
concept (without the alcohol) has
lime and mint, but we also note from
the labelling that the mix also
contains apricots.
80% pork from Giggly Pigs own "home reared
saddle back pigs" with a good
amount of rusk (10%) in quality skins cooked up
beautifully. There was a
definite mint and lime aroma on
opening the pack and again from the
pan as they cooked, which we thought
was really good.
The skins although quite fine cooked
up well with no splits and although
a slight eruption from some ends as
the skins tightened up was noted,
this didn't in any way detract from
what was a really good flavour.
We were, if honest, expecting the
mint and lime to be on the heavy
side but they're well balanced, and
there's a really pleasant slight
fruit (from the apricots?) that
compliments the taste experience.
Texture-wise these sausages are
medium.
£10.99 / Kg may be as we've said
before a tad on the high side
perhaps but we would justify this as
these are a really well made quality
sausage that has a wonderfully
unique flavour. One of the team here
said "these are special"... and I
agree. Delightful.
