Powters - Celebrated Newmarket

70% meat, from local Tesco's, well yes, with added rusk, sodium's , sulphites and stuff, OK, enough said. However these do have a reasonably succulent, strongly spiced and peppery taste. Medium bite and density of filling.

This particular one was brought to our attention through a recent recommendation so we thought we would give it a good go. Some supermarket sausages do tend to be lower in meat percentage and at the cheap end. Results were pretty decent as it happens. Very little residual fat was observed remaining in the pan and the skin cooked up well without hardening or splitting. Shrinkage was not too bad as it goes.

The packaging says of fresh hand-boned free range pork with a "secret blend" of herbs and spices. All here commented that these ate fairly well, with a defined peppery flavour but unfortunately not an exceptional taste or bite, so this supermarket style retailed sausage finds itself only up there with our benchmark of a good everyday sausage.

These sausages would be great in something like a sausage toad or a sausage pie with a short crust..
