Well, we bought some reggae bangers (and some traditional porks which we will write about shortly). The butcher said about the reggaes that we shouldn't worry as they "wouldn't take your head off", but hey why call something a "reggae" if it doesn't have some decent amount of chilli in it? We're going in...
These sausages are big, so two as a serving are probably for super heroes only! Over 80% meat in these we're informed, very good quality cases and it looks like both green and red chilli makes the mix as well. A superb aroma from the pan when they were cooking actually brought our chilli lover sampler out from hiding and in to the kitchen.
The skins cook up well and although these meaty sausages are definitely hot & spicy, they are honestly well within a normal mortals chilli tolerance I'm sure. All agreed they had a good bite and succulence for sure. These are a proper good sausage.
A loud "wooooo" was heard from our chilli lover as she tucked in to her "reggae sausage and mash"! Eaten cold next day...chilli still evident but not so spicy, very good though! Say no more...
I really must thank Mrs J for her recommendation we try AJ Coulson (previously Stokes) as these are a "superbly" good sausage (and the top-side beef joint was first class too BTW).
Here's the
sample details:
165x32mm before cooking, 148x32mm after.
101g before cooking, 95g after.
That's a shrinkage of approx 10% & weight loss of approx 6%.
6 loose sausages £4.60 (approx £7.60/kg)
