Sausage Review - we review sausages

On our way back home from grannies in Suffolk and we made a point of stopping to visit the Food Company's store just off the A12 on the London Road at Marks Tey near Colchester.

Still a good store and restaurant, and grannie was well impressed. They've got a "cheese room" you know she repeated when we got back in to the car. She even told the family the same when we got back. I'll bet she tells her neighbours when she gets home too. Yes the cheese room was good but I'd say the butchery's better. A really good display from which I picked up some cumberland sausages this time (and some chipolatas) that all looked excellent.  Ok and a slice of parmesan cheese, etc etc...I had to buy something from the cheese counter!

Now these cumberlands are labelled 95% pork meat, which you may expect to cook up slightly on the dense side but no, in fact the texture was a good medium and they were quite succulent. The natural hog skins also cooked up nicely, well browned and slightly crisp.  Flavour-wise plenty of "herbiness" and a good touch of spice that just lingers on the tongue.  All in all, a real nice sausage experience.

Certainly minimal shrinkage and weight loss, and at £8.00/kg, pretty good value we'd say.

Eaten cold later we did notice a reduced "herbiness", but still lovely all the same!  Good sausage, just misses our all time top ten, but it's up there!
