We asked for chipolatas and these are what we got at the Food Company's store just off the A12 on the London Road at Marks Tey, but the label said "breakfast pork"...hmm?
We often pass by the store on the way to grannies in Suffolk and it's a real pleasure to call in. But back to these particular chipolatas. At 170mm long these are more of a sausage than chipolata to be honest!
Ok there's no hard rule that says chipolatas have to be a certain length (or diameter come to that) so I suppose it's ultimately down to the producer.
95% meat in hog skins sounds excellent though, and they cooked up really well. The test sample was pan fried as normal but the remainder found their way on to the barbeque.
We'd prepared this barbeque for family and friends with an assortment of chipolatas as part of our feast (there's a surprise!)...and it would be worth noting though that as people selected the "extra long" Food Company chipolatas, they cut them in half before placing in to a long roll. Interesting...I must ask The Food Company why such long chipolatas?
The skins appeared quite fine just like their bigger brothers (The Breakfast Pork) but by both methods, pan fired and barbequed, there were no splits at all.
Well a good tasting sausage with just enough seasoning, and a pleasing medium texture. Not as "snappy a bite" as we've had from some other chipolatas we've tried, but certainly a quality product... OK a bit of noticeable weight loss and shrinkage...
The Food Company store has a vast array of foodie delights. Certainly worth a visit...
Would we buy again...I'd say! Feedback from our guests: "Liked those LONG chipolatas, where did you get them from?"... Details below...
