The well stocked farm shop is a short drive up Colne Road (A120 / B1024 junction) near Coggleshall, north towards Earls Colne...easy to find but a scary junction when turning right to cross the dual carriageway, so do take care.
Picked up some very good looking Old English sausages (and some Welsh Dragon sausages which we'll review shortly). We were served by James who brought to our attention the blue boards on the farm shop wall indicating quite a list of some very good restaurants and butchers both locally and in London that Blackwells supply.
87%
quality local pork in natural skins
sounds pretty good and cooked up you
could tell these are a well made
product. There was though a
bit of noticeable weight loss, more
than we would have expected.
The texture was on the smooth side
of medium, and retained reasonable
succulence. The taste was excellent
with the seasoning being on the
button for us. One of the team
claimed the skins were a tad chewy,
but I noticed that they cleared
their plate of sausage and mash, so
they couldn't have been that bad. I
personally found these Old English a
very good example of a well made
sausage which I'd certainly buy
again.
