Samuels (Wisbech)
- GW Frank JumbosWe last tried some GW Franks from Samuels in 2019 so it will be interesting to see if the recipe is still true to form. Our friends in Norfolk were down recently and they dropped off a few sausages (a jumbo version of the GW Franks) thanking me for some IT help I had offered over the phone. I said it wasn't necessary, but not wanting to be ungrateful, of course I kept the sausages!
Samuels still have their business on Market Lane between Walpole St. Andrew and the A17 Kings Lynn and they are still the proud keepers of a secret sausage recipe past down through generations at Wisbech’s well known G.W Frank’s market place butchers. Although on the tray labelling it does openly show a lot of ingredients which now are "not so secret" perhaps?
In the raw just like their smaller brothers, the jumbos are a good looking sausage. The labelling doesn't mention the meat percentage but I'm sure as with the last review I'm sure they would be happy with us saying approximately 82% quality locally sourced pork goes in to these. Now the other ingredients: sage, salt, water, wheat flour, Worcester sauce powder, wheat rusk, preservative, white pepper and a spice extract of some sort. Hmm? I hope they and now ourselves haven't given the game away...
Excellent quality natural skins still contain a lovely tasting meaty delight. Once again when cooked, they cut nicely and allow you to chew the meat rather than the skin. We liked these just as much as their little brothers. Texture-wise just under medium once again.
Still not bad value either for a proper job good sausage. Weight loss and shrinkage very consistent with our previous sampling.
We ate these as part of a very nice sausage and mash.
So, would I buy some more of the GW Frank sausages from Samuels? Too blooming right. Excellent snorkers!
