Mr John's (Waltham Abbey) Chipolatas

We were with a customer recently and she suggested that we should try some of the products she liked from her mum's local butchers in Sun Street, Waltham Abbey, Essex...

We've tried all sorts locally here so a short ride over to Waltham Abbey on the Essex borders for a change, with an afternoon tea in Philpott's Tea Rooms (by the Abbey Gardens) and then calling in to Mr John's for a few sausages was a real treat.

The shop's in the pedestrian only Sun Street, and we experienced a warm welcome as we arrived in the shop with the very jovial butcher joking that "there's no horse in these sausages, as we've completely run out"... very good!

Over 80% pork and not bad looking these chipolatas even though they did appear a little thin in the raw!  Good skins and a right picture as you can see below. Bit pricey mind considering the weight loss cooked at a staggering 27%.

They cooked up so small!  Almost what you'd call tiny!  A very good bite and taste, but you'd need quite a few as an adult to call a meal unfortunately.  As a kiddies sausage, yes OK I give in.

Eaten cold, not bad at all. OK too as a snack but realistically you'll need half a dozen to fill a sausage sandwich!  Just an OK sausage...

You should try the sausages from Mr John's at the Abbey.  We like them.
