The potential
68 mile round trip just to get
sausages may have been in normal
circumstances just a bit too far but
calling in on the way home from
family in Thurston near Bury St
Edmunds made it a goer!
Really friendly butchery staff
greeted us and we picked up some
really good looking sausages and
information on their making! There's
something about traditional high
street butchers shops that sets them
apart from the supermarket type
departments. Whether it's the
customer banter and chat, or indeed
the real interest in their products,
it would be fair to say shopping
here was a good experience.
In the raw the Fen Dittons looked
the tops! 70%+ meat, nicely filled skins
and all tied "proper"! Quite a
small-ish sausage true, but cooked up
they browned really well and the
smooth-ish texture was pretty good.
No extra residual oil in the pan
which we like by the way and minimum
shrinkage. The natural skins
mage for a good bite and the
firmness of meat was good too.
For me though the flavour was a
little mild. The girlies here
though thought the flavour was good,
but there wasn't the lingering spice
on the palette, which we were hoping
for.
Now don't get us wrong, these are a
very good sausage made from prime
free range pork which we would buy
again. (Incidentally we also
bought some excellent looking
Venison & Porks, which will be
sampled shortly, so please check out
our review very soon...)
You won't go wrong with these
sausages. You heard it from
us!

Here's the
sample details:
100x28mm before cooking, 90x30mm
after.
62g before cooking, 57g after.
That's a shrinkage of approx 5% & weight
loss of approx 8%.
An epic fail as we didn't get
prices! Must do better next time!
