Ashlyns say
their aim is to source their meat as
locally as possible, predominately
from Essex or from the east Anglia
area ensuring the meat quality is to
a high standard! The butcher on site
advised too that the pork used for
these sausages was definitely free
range and the mix was around 80%
meat, in natural skins. Nice.
There's a lot to be said about
buying local and Ashlyns has become
a bit of a place to visit for
regulars to not only visit the
restaurant/tea room but also to
stock up in the farm shop, deli and
butchery departments. (I can
honestly recommend the pork
pies...bought one to eat on the way
home...seriously good) I
should mention that they have a
beauty salon and a play barn also.
Almost forgot, a fishing lake and a
fine wine store too. Something for
everyone really.
OK back to the pork sausages, which
incidentally cooked up really well.
Lovely tasty meat with good spice
and a texture bordering on medium
giving a really nice chew. The
natural skins browned well and made
for a good bite. At £6.49/kg
that makes them quite reasonably
priced I'd say for a good quality
sausage.
We tried these pan fried but I bet
they're just as good
barbequed. (Mental note to
self: buy some more for bonfire
night eats!)
You won't go wrong in buying these.
Although they didn't make our all
time top ten, they're still a
blooming good sausage!
