Sausage Review - we review sausages

On a trip to Twickenham recently, visiting St Mary’s Uni rather than the rugby ground as it happens, we came across The Teddington Butchers. Once again it was too much of a temptation to purchase sausages much to the amusement of the family...

It was late in the afternoon so the shop was clearing up for the day, but the butcher was more than happy to serve us, getting fresh sausages from the chiller and taking time to have a quick chat.

Gloucester Old Spot pork at 75% is used in the mix and this is generously loaded in to what looks like good quality natural skins. Now these are quite large sausages at on average 98g per sausage. That’s nearly a quarter pound per snorker! Teddington Butchers say they source their pork (and other meats) from trusted specialist farms and suppliers that have a proven track record for quality and high standards of animal welfare.

Cooked up the skins browned really well and having no splits, bursts or similar it highlights that decent quality skins have been used. Although these sausages were large, the skins were not over stuffed, indicating that some particular care had been taken in their making. The texture of the cooked sausage was a good medium, with a fair amount of seasoning, however for us, there was a tad too much salt. The bite and chew was pretty good although one of the team said that just one was more than enough for her sausage and mash meal.

These are a good size after cooking with minimal weight loss and shrinkage. At the time I did write on a scrap of paper the price but seemed to have mislaid this in the car. As I recall it could have been £8.99/Kg., but I will check.

All in all a very good stonker of a sausage that we would surely buy again.
