Kings (Kings Lynn) - Olde English

The quite fine skins did look rather "baggy" to be honest in appearance as we got these sausages ready for cooking, but we shouldn't have worried because the skins tightened up and browned rather nicely. In fact they looked pretty good sizzling away in the fry pan...

Really we shouldn't complain as these were yet another present arranged and dropped off "free of charge" by our friends in Norfolk recently.  We're told that they use Kings of Wisbech Road regularly for their meat requirements, so were keen we tried some more Norfolk produce.

As we said the skins cooked up well with no splits or bursts, and the sausages retained quite a good succulence. Texture-wise we'd say they came out around medium, with a good snappy bite for a "banger" and a good chew. We're informed that these sausages are 80% pork meat from Gayton Farm, but if we have this wrong, I'm sure King's will let us know!

With "Olde English" we weren't sure about how much spice we'd get as we've been really surprised about how different the strength of "Olde English" as a flavour can be from different makers.  We were pleased in the end though as the seasoning level was excellent. Minimal residual oil left in the pan after cooking. Reasonable weight loss and absolute minimum shrinkage too would indicate to us a very well made sausage.

Unfortunately, the troops ate well and they all went very quickly, so I didn't have enough to keep back one to try cold.  However I'm sure that even when cold these would have been good. Perhaps next time...

So to round up, these "Olde English" from Kings are a super tasting sausage coming at the high end of our all time list.  You really should try these and when you do, please let us know your opinion...

Mind you, I've just had a look at their Facebook page (link below), and noted the Chocolate Orange flavour sausage...hmm?  Must be an acquired taste?
