Gog
Magog Hills Farm Shop -
Merguez
On a recent
business trip to Cambridge I called
in to the Gog Magog Hills farm shop for a
look see and
found a really interesting array of
foodie stuffs including some very
good looking sausages...
So here's a bit of background info
if you're interested. Gog Magog
Hills Farm Shop is a long established family
business operating a Shop and
Butchery, a Deli and a Cafe.
Incidentally in 2012 they were named
runner up in the Butchers Shop of
the Year awards and runner up in the
2012 Observer Best Independent Food
Retailer competition. Then the
following year Gog Magog Hills do it
again and are named runner up in the
2013 Observer Best Independent Food
Retailer competition.
So what's this Merguez sausage then?
Well it's fairly course textured
LAMB with some interesting seasoning
giving it quite a memorable flavour.
I like these as they're something
different. Not to everyones
taste perhaps (the troops here
commented) but the almost "doner
kebab" aroma and strong flavour edge
make a humdinger of sausage sandwich
believe me!
These are not gluten free, do
contain egg and quite a bit of fat /
oil is released whilst cooking.
Oo err!
I've also tried these in an oven
bake cooked in a rich tomato sauce,
with a poached egg...absolutely
scrummy! (See the photo below)
Expensive for everyday sausages, yes
OK, but lamb is expensive.
So spoil yourself, why not
call in to the farm shop and
pickup some yourself to try,
and then let us know what
you think about these too!
