The Fowler brothers own and manage
their Food Standards Agency approved
abattoir together with an on-site
butcher’s shop and catering
business. The butchery
business appears to be run under the
title of Maravac Meats but when we
next see a friend of the family
(lives in Burnham) who dropped in a
couple of packs of the Maravac
sausages recently we'll ask for more
information on this...
These 70% meat content "Welsh
Dragon" sausages in good quality
natural skins look proper
interesting and appear definitely
run off by hand. 7 sausages in a
pack...whatever next? From the
Fowler's web site the pork meat is
sourced from Essex and Suffolk
producers. (Mr Hitchcock, Bury St
Edmunds, Suffolk -
Stuart Bosworth, Ongar, Essex
- J. Butler, Halesworth,
Suffolk - M.Symon,
Latchington, Essex -
Blythburgh Pork, Suffolk)
On opening the packaging there was a
nice aroma of chilli, not strong but
definitely there. Cooked up the skins
did their thing and browned well,
tightened down and held together
without any splits or spits.
I will admit to stabbing the "spare
7th"
sausage with a fork and munching
before it got anywhere near the
table. Oh err missus!
Lovely. Just enough chilli to
tingle the palate without burning
the back of the throat.
Retained succulence looks to have
been achieved by the shredded leeks.
Good call. The troops in
attendance all gave a thumbs up to
these.
OK, reasonable shrinkage and weight
loss in cooking. Price-wise
quite good at £6.49/kg. In our
opinion a very good chilli sausage.
Would we buy some ourselves?
Absolutely...barbeque time will come
round again soon enough!
